Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Class November 21, 2008

Today I went to all three classes on the Friday’s schedule at Vitor Shaolin Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. This was a BBJ day for me!!!!

7:30am Professor Shaolin covered the basics of how to pass the half guard and several other positions and we got a chance to roll half the time. Five mins rounds.

12:30pm Professor Shaolin’s Black Belt assistant named Vitor taught how to pass the half guard from his unqiue perspective and gave us pointers. We had the chance to roll again in the last five mins of class. We did three rounds (5 min. round).

5:30pm (NO GI Class). Professor Shaolin went over the basic sweaps from the butter fly guard and how to rear naked choke someone who is blocking or has a thick neck. This technique and its many transformations were awesome to learn and watch the Professor perform. I had the chance roll with many different bodies. Most of my partners out weighted me by 40lbs, which is good for me. I got to apply technique and defend myself.

Well today was awesome at Professor Shaolin’s academy. I am most grateful for my instructors and my classmates. Thank you gentlemen! My left hip and right elbow is tweaked from you trying to submit me with arm bars, shoulder locks, and other shit I could not see. Lucky I am one slippery devil.

I want to add one more thing Professor was concerned that I was over training and did not want to see me drop out to possible injury or overtraining. He encouraged me to slow down and take some days off, but I told him how I wanted to learn and I needed to practice. (How the hell can I miss the opportunity to learn from a BJJ master like professor Shaolin?)The professor smiled and said that I should listen to my body and if I do not feel pain or hurt myself it is okay that I train.

He doesn’t know my athletic background yet, but, believe or not, I am very comfortable with hard work and discipline. ;)
